Zeekr Plans to Launch Its Own EV Charging Network in Australia

0

Tesla’s expansive Supercharger network has long been a competitive advantage in Australia’s electric vehicle (EV) market. However, according to car.news, Chinese EV manufacturer Zeekr is now preparing to launch its own charging infrastructure in the country as part of a bold expansion strategy.

Zeekr already has significant experience managing charging networks. In China, it operates 860 ultra-fast 800V stations1,536 fast chargers, and 4,134 total chargers across 183 cities, giving it a strong technological foundation.

Tesla currently boasts around 800 EV chargers at more than 100 locations across Australia, while most other EV brands rely on independent charging operators. Zeekr sees this as an opportunity to stand out by bringing its Zeekr Powernetwork to the local market.

Speaking to local media in Sydney, William Zhou, General Manager of Zeekr Australia, stated:

“We want to differentiate ourselves compared to other incoming EV brands. In China, we have our own charging network called Zeekr Power, which is similar to what Tesla has here.
We’re exploring collaboration opportunities with equipment manufacturers, charger operators, and electricity providers in Australia. Our direction is to have our own chargers, but I don’t know how long it will take.”

According to car.news, Zeekr currently offers just two models in Australia – the 009 people mover and the X compact SUV, both fully electric. A larger model, the 7X electric SUV, is expected to arrive later this year, with a third SUV confirmed for release in 2026.

Globally, Zeekr’s lineup is EV-focused, though the Geely-owned company has recently entered the plug-in hybrid market with its new 9X large SUV.

Outside of Tesla’s Supercharger network, Australia’s public EV charging market is led by companies such as ChargefoxEvieJOLT, and the NRMA. Zeekr Australia had previously partnered with Evie to offer 12 months of free public charging with every new vehicle purchase, though this promotion ended with the close of the financial year.
