Charleston, South Carolina – To honor the Charleston Animal Society’s 150th anniversary, Joye Law Firm Injury Lawyers and Adams Outdoor launched the Charleston Paw Project, a community initiative that provided 150 free spay and neuter surgeries and other essential veterinary care to pets across the Lowcountry. The program received an overwhelming response from the community, with nearly 5,000 entries from local pet owners.

“Joye Law Firm has stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the Animal Society in building and sustaining Charleston County as the first No Kill County in the Deep South.  Spay and neuter is the key to saving animals and Joye Law Firm is on the front line again,” said Joe Elmore, President and CEO, Charleston Animal Society.

The Paw Project awarded 150 winners in three waves, each winner received a certificate for a free spay or neuter procedure and a one-year rabies vaccine at Charleston Animal Society’s Sam Greer Spay-Neuter Clinic in North Charleston. The initiative was fully funded by Joye Law Firm Injury Lawyers, with Adams Outdoor providing key support and Charleston Animal Society completing the veterinary services.

“This project reflects who we are as a firm,” said Ken Harrell, Managing Partner of Joye Law Firm Injury Lawyers. “Respect for the common good is one of our firm’s Core Values, and helping families care for their pets is one tangible way we can make life better for our community. Based on the overwhelming response, I can confidently say we’re not done yet.”

Firm Attorney William Asche, who serves on the Board of Trustees at Charleston Animal Society, added that while pleased with the overwhelming response to the campaign, “it underscores the dramatic needs for affordable pet care and support right here at home. There is more work to be done,” he said.

Spaying and neutering are essential in reducing pet overpopulation, preventing animal homelessness, and improving the long-term health and well-being of pets. For 150 years, Charleston Animal Society has championed this mission, and Joye Law Firm Injury Lawyers and Adams Outdoor are proud to help expand their lifesaving impact and hopeful about launching a similar initiative in 2026.

About Charleston Animal Society

Since 1874, the mission of Charleston Animal Society has always been the prevention of cruelty to animals.  Recognized as an international model of lifesaving success, the Animal Society focuses on three impacts: ending the unnecessary euthanasia, overpopulation, and cruelty of animals.  Last year, the Animal Society cared for over 35,000 animals, spayed or neutered over 15,000 animals, adopted over 5,000 animals, and taught compassion to over 11,000 children. As South Carolina’s largest lifesaving organization, animal organizations from across the state and beyond seek guidance and support from the Animal Society, whose guiding principle is that it has a disproportionate responsibility to others; if there is an animal in need anywhere that the Animal Society can impact, it will.  With 13 consecutive years of exemplary independent financial audits, the Animal Society remains the top-rated nonprofit organization in South Carolina. For more information, visit CharlestonAnimalSociety.org.
