Bentley has unveiled its first electric vehicle (EV) concept – the EXP 15, an “elevated sporting sedan” that offers a daring look into the luxury brand’s electric future. This visionary model previews the design direction for Bentley’s upcoming showroom EVs, with the first production model set to arrive in 2026 according to car.news.
Measuring 5.4 meters in length, the EXP 15 is presented as a full-scale design study, setting the tone for Bentley’s next chapter. Despite several delays, the brand has reaffirmed its plan to introduce its first production EV in 2026. The concept showcases a fully electric, all-wheel-drive powertrain designed for long range and fast charging – though technical details remain under wraps.

Though described as a sedan, the EXP 15 features only three doors and three seats, blending elements of a grand tourer, a traditional sedan, and an upright SUV stance. Its radical form stands in stark contrast to the plug-in hybrid V8 Flying Spur currently in Bentley’s lineup.
As Bentley’s design director Robin Page explained, concept cars are not just about showcasing new aesthetics, but also about testing the direction of customer preferences. “Some clients want a classic three-box sedan, others prefer a one-box shape, while some look for a more elevated and bold presence,” he noted. The EXP 15 was crafted to explore those changing expectations.
The design also pays homage to Bentley’s rich 106-year history. The upright front grille, sweeping “endless” bonnet, and rearward cabin were inspired by the iconic 1930 Speed Six “Blue Train”.

In place of a combustion engine under the bonnet, the space is now used for storage, accessible via traditional piano-hinged covers. The front grille – no longer functionally necessary in an EV – remains a symbolic part of Bentley’s identity. “Now, with light tech evolving, we have the chance to turn the grille into a piece of digital art,” said Page.
At the rear, sleek surfaces and an integrated luggage compartment reflect Bentley’s legacy. A unique touch includes two hidden seats, ambient lighting, and a refrigerated drinks drawer that slides out – part of what the brand calls a “resting beast” design inspired by the stance of a cat at rest.
Painted in Pallas Gold, the exterior finish uses a new aluminum pigment with white-gold highlights, while the sculpted bodywork and strong proportions reflect a modern monolithic presence.
One of the most unconventional features is the three-seat layout – despite space for four or five. Bentley says this configuration “offers greater luxury for the few,” with added in-cabin storage for pets or hand luggage. The interior features one driver’s door and twin-coach doors on the passenger side for easier access.
The passenger-side seat swivels 45 degrees to assist rear entry and can be positioned in various modes: Standard, Co-Pilot, or Relax. “You simply step out with grace – not climb out awkwardly like in a supercar,” said Darren Day, Bentley’s head of interior design. “And yes, the Instagram shot is perfect.”
Inside, a harmonious blend of natural wood, silk jacquard, and woven metal details create a luxurious cabin environment. Bentley emphasizes the balance of physical and digital elements, with some features intentionally merging both – according to car.news. For example, the full-width digital dash can rotate to reveal a wooden veneer surface, while movable mechanical “fingers” display charge levels and key info.
Initially, Bentley planned to launch its first EV in 2025 and release a new electric model each year until 2030. However, like many automakers, the brand has revised its timeline due to evolving market conditions and regulatory changes.
In late 2024, Bentley confirmed its first EV would be a new urban SUV, scheduled to debut in 2026, with first customer deliveries expected in 2027. According to car.news, Bentley’s inaugural electric model will share many components with the upcoming electric Porsche Cayenne, also due in 2026.
