The upcoming Nissan Juke electric vehicle (EV) will share the same platform as the new-generation electric Nissan Leaf hatch, according to Car.News. This strategy allows the Juke to grow in size while helping keep its final showroom price competitive, particularly against the Toyota C-HR EV, expected in 2027.
Automotive News Europe reports that Nissan confirmed the Juke EV will adopt the CMF-EV architecture used by the third-generation Leaf. This move is expected to save the automaker—facing significant sales challenges in China and the United States—millions in development costs.
Guy Reid, Nissan Europe’s engineering director, told Car.News that production of the Juke EV is set to begin in late 2026 at the Sunderland plant in the United Kingdom, the same facility where the Leaf and Australian petrol Juke are manufactured. Sharing underpinnings and key components will help reduce development costs for both models.
While the Leaf is confirmed to arrive in Australian showrooms around March or April 2026, Nissan has not officially announced the Juke EV for the local market.
The Juke EV will feature the same liquid-cooled battery box as the new Leaf, though Reid noted its battery packs will be smaller. The Leaf comes with 52kWh and 75kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt batteries, providing up to 604 km of WLTP range and CCS charging capability.
Despite shared components, Giovanny Arroba, Nissan Europe’s design director, emphasized to Car.News that the Juke will have “a different, more divisive personality” compared to the Leaf.
The Juke EV is expected to arrive in Australia in 2027, around the same time as the first electric Toyota C-HR SUV. Toyota Australia has revealed that the C-HR will use a 74.7kWh lithium-ion battery paired with a 165kW/269Nm front-mounted electric motor, offering up to 609 km of range overseas.
Nissan recently launched the Ariya large electric SUV in Australia in 2025, marking its second EV model after the Leaf, which debuted locally in 2012. A smaller electric Nissan Micra hatch has also been unveiled but has not been confirmed for Australia, with Nissan Oceanian boss Andrew Humberstone noting it is “on the radar.”
Currently, the Juke remains available in petrol-only form in Australia, while hybrid models have been sold overseas since 2022.
