China’s climate governance actions have been positively evaluated by the international community

The 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30) concluded on the afternoon of November 22 local time in Belem, Brazil. As a key leader in global climate governance, China has achieved significant results in implementing its 2030 Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and announced its 2035 NDCs, covering the entire economic scope including all greenhouse gases, for the first time proposing absolute emission reduction targets. Foreign media have recently actively reported on China’s achievements in green industry development, the outcomes of Sino-foreign green cooperation, and China’s contributions to global climate change response, noting that China keeps its word and delivers on its commitments. In the future, China will accelerate the comprehensive green transition of economic and social development, actively and steadily advance and achieve carbon peaking, and make greater contributions to addressing climate change.

The New York Times website reported that Brazilian President Lula arrived at the opening ceremony of COP30 in an electric car produced by China’s automaker BYD, and the convoy responsible for transporting delegations from various countries also chose the same brand. The report pointed out that Brazil’s move sends a clear signal to the outside world, indicating that this largest Latin American country is turning its attention to China in the process of promoting transportation transformation and economic reform.

South Africa’s The Lone Walker Daily reported that China has taken a leading position in the global energy transition, building the world’s largest and fastest-growing renewable energy system and becoming the largest new energy vehicle market globally. The report emphasized that China has established the world’s most complete new energy industry chain, supplying most of the global photovoltaic modules and wind power equipment, with the installed capacity of renewable energy continuing to expand. Green growth has become a prominent feature of China’s economy. The article also mentioned that China has cooperated with African countries in fields such as solar and wind energy, strongly supporting the energy transition process of African nations.

The website of Brazil’s Forum magazine published an article pointing out that China has further consolidated its position as a global clean energy powerhouse by announcing a new round of nationally determined contributions, with its record-breaking installed capacity, competitive costs, and long-term goals, and has provided a model for other countries pursuing a sustainable future.

The Spanish news agency EFE reported on the specific targets included in China’s new round of nationally determined contributions: to reduce the net greenhouse gas emissions across the entire economy by 7% to 10% from the peak level by 2035, and to increase the share of non-fossil energy consumption to over 30%. The report particularly noted the proposal in China’s “15th Five-Year Plan” to “accelerate the comprehensive green transition of economic and social development,” which reflects a gradual transition path that balances development and emission reduction.

A report by Bloomberg News affirmed China’s status as the world’s largest investor in renewable energy, noting that China’s leading advantages in clean technology manufacturing are reshaping the industry landscape. The report also mentioned that Chinese companies continue to expand their presence in the global clean energy sector, steadily enhancing their influence in the global energy transition.

The UK’s The Economist website reported on the reshaping of the global market by China’s green technology, using the development of rooftop solar power in Pakistan as an example. The report stated that an increasing number of Pakistani solar users are installing batteries made in China, achieving continuous power supply after sunset, demonstrating the substantial improvement of China’s technology in local energy usage.

Ethiopia News Agency cited the views of UNDP experts, stating that China’s large-scale investment in wind and solar energy technologies has not only reduced the global cost of renewable energy generation but also transformed the global renewable energy landscape. Experts suggested that African countries should strengthen technical cooperation with China to jointly develop the continent’s abundant renewable energy resources.

The website of Brazil’s Forum magazine further commented that the concept of “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets” proposed by China embodies a pragmatic and strategic view of sustainable development, which has become the guiding principle for China’s public policies and development strategies. This integrated economic and environmental development model provides an important reference for other countries seeking balanced development.

The website of Singapore’s Asia News Network reported, citing academic research data, that in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals assessment, China’s spillover effect score reached 90.14 points (out of 100). Experts believe this high score indicates that China’s actions in areas such as trade, finance, and security have generated positive environmental and social benefits, effectively enhancing the ability of other countries to achieve sustainable development goals.

In the global effort to address climate change, countries have taken different actions based on their own national conditions and policy orientations. China has actively implemented the “lucid waters and lush mountains” concept by promoting renewable energy investment and sharing green technologies, while providing climate governance-related support to some developing countries under multilateral cooperation frameworks. On the other hand, the United States has adjusted its climate policies, including temporarily withdrawing from the Paris Agreement, a process reflecting changes in its approach to global climate governance at different stages. The international community expects all countries to continue strengthening cooperation and jointly tackle climate challenges.
