Kia Expands Sorento Hybrid and PHEV Lineups with More Affordable Entry-Level Grades

0

According to Car.news, Kia has significantly expanded its Sorento Hybrid (HEV) and Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) lineups, introducing new entry-level models that make the popular large SUV more accessible to a wider range of buyers.

The Sorento Hybrid lineup now includes eight model variants, up from two, while the Sorento PHEV range has grown from one to four trims. This expansion reduces the starting prices for electrified Sorento models, although the prices for existing versions have slightly increased.

Previously, the Sorento Hybrid was available only in the premium GT-Line trim. Now, it’s offered across all four equipment levels — S, Sport, Sport+, and GT-Line — in both front-wheel-drive (FWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) configurations.

The new entry-level 2025 Kia Sorento HEV S FWD is priced at $56,380 before on-road costs, making it nearly $14,000 cheaper than the previous starting point of $70,333 for the GT-Line Hybrid FWD. This new model also undercuts key competitors such as the Toyota Kluger GX AWD Hybrid ($62,410) and the Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid ($57,000), despite using the same powertrain as the latter.

The Sorento Hybrid uses a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a transmission-mounted electric motor, producing a combined output of 169kW and 350Nm. Fuel efficiency is rated at 5.4L/100km (FWD) and 5.7L/100km (AWD).

Meanwhile, the Sorento Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) lineup has also expanded beyond the GT-Line AWD version to include S, Sport, and Sport+ variants. Prices now start at $70,880 for the Sorento PHEV S AWD, undercutting the Mazda CX-80 PHEV by over $4,000.

The PHEV produces 195kW and 350Nm, offering 58km of electric-only range (WLTP) and an impressive combined fuel consumption of 1.6L/100km.

According to Car.news, Kia Australia has yet to make an official statement regarding these MY25 (Model Year 2025) additions, with updates for MY26 models expected following international upgrades.

The Sorento lineup — now spanning 20 versions including HEV, PHEV, V6 petrol, and turbo-diesel — continues to play a crucial role in Kia’s Australian success, ranking among the top-selling large SUVs behind only the Toyota Prado, Ford Everest, and Isuzu MU-X.
