Florida Attorney General Issues Criminal Subpoenas to Roblox

0

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced earlier today that his office has issued criminal subpoenas to Roblox Corporation, according to Game.News. Uthmeier accused the gaming platform of profiting from children while simultaneously exposing them to “the most dangerous of harms.”

In a video message accompanying the announcement, he stated that Roblox has become a breeding ground for predators, allowing them to reach and exploit young users. “We will not stop at anything to protect our children,” Uthmeier emphasized, noting that companies enabling predatory activities or exposing minors to harm will be held fully accountable, according to Game.News.

Following the announcement, Roblox provided a statement to Florida Phoenix, confirming its cooperation with the Attorney General’s office. “We have a strong record of working with law enforcement and investing in advanced safety systems to protect our users,” the company said. Roblox detailed several safety measures, including chat filters that block personal information, prohibitions on sharing images and videos, and ongoing efforts to implement age estimation across chat features.

This development marks another legal challenge for Roblox, as the company is already facing a separate lawsuit filed by Louisiana’s Attorney General in August, citing similar concerns over child safety and platform moderation.

As investigations continue, the focus remains on how Roblox will respond to growing scrutiny over its safety systems and content moderation practices.
