Australia’s best-selling electric vehicle, the Tesla Model Y, just got a significant upgrade — particularly in its Long Range variant. According to car.news, the dual-motor Long Range version now boasts a 600km claimed range under the WLTP cycle, up from the previous 551km. This improvement comes with a battery capacity increase from 81.65kWh to 84.85kWh, as revealed by Tesla Korea certification data shared by Tsla Chan on X.

The standard rear-wheel drive (RWD) version remains unchanged, still offering a 466km range and a 0-100km/h sprint time of 5.9 seconds, while the updated Long Range clocks the same sprint in 4.8 seconds.

There’s more for fans of customization. Tesla has introduced a new exterior colourDiamond Black, available for an additional $1500 across all Model Y trims. The Pearl White Multi-Coat finish remains standard, while Glacier Blue and Stealth Grey have become more affordable, now priced at $1500 and $1900 respectively — down from $2300. Quicksilver and Ultra Red still sit at $2600.

Starting at $58,900 before on-road costs for the RWD model and $68,900 for the Long Range, the Model Y is Tesla’s only SUV currently on sale in Australia. The much-anticipated refreshed Performance model is still under wraps.

The latest Juniper update brings a modernized look and feel to the vehicle, with redesigned front and rear styling, enhanced suspension, heated and ventilated front seats, a 15.4-inch touchscreenadjustable ambient lightingpower-reclining rear seats, and even an 8.0-inch rear entertainment display.

This update seems to have had a positive effect on Tesla’s sales figures. To the end of June, Tesla delivered 10,431 unitsof the Model Y in Australia, making it the top-selling EV by a significant margin. According to car.news, it far outpaces the BYD Sealion 7 (3756 deliveries), the Kia EV5 (2765), and the Polestar 4 (676).
